People who have difficulty chewing or swallowing food often have dysphagia (pronounced dis-fay-ja). It’s a medical term that means a person cannot move a substance from the mouth to the stomach. Dysphagia may present as difficulty with sucking, swallowing, drinking, chewing, eating, controlling saliva, taking medication or protecting the airway and can occur at any time for a short time or long term.
The most common causes of dysphagia are related to underlying medical or physical conditions, however, it is recognised that dysphagia can also manifest in psychological or psychiatric conditions.
Allied Health professionals play an important role in managing and supporting patients with dysphagia.
Speech Pathology Australia endorses the IDDSI framework as best practice for speech pathologists in Australia for a texture modified diet. The framework is also supported by the Dietitians Association of Australia and the Institute of Hospitality in Healthcare. We provide IDDSI compliant food in line with Speech Pathology Australia’s recommendations.

Self-managing my nephew Matthew’s NDIS Funding Plan means I deal with lots of service providers. TCF is a shining light and a lifesaver for Matt. We’ll be forever grateful.
The food products are amazing on so many different levels – flavour, perfect texture, nutritional content, reduced preparation time, visually appealing and my twin boys are gaining weight!
I’ve seen different dietitians and they’ve generally suggested adding PaediaSure to my cerebral palsy twins’ drinks and meals. I never got any results that way. But the TCF products we’re using now are something special.
My heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the TCF team – you’ll never fully understand the difference you’ve made in our lives.
